In residence at ARTSPACE, Les Fermieres Obsedees with final performance Carnaval Friday March 14 7 PM.
These three women from Quebec challenge convention and complacency in their artistic commentary on the world, illustrated through costume, speech, theatrical dance and visual tableaux. Les Fermiere Obsedees will be in residence at Artspace throughout the week, developing their own take on the Peterborough community and readying a final performance to illustrate their impressions. Expect the unexpected! March 14th at 7 PM.
Presented in collaboration with Public Energy.
Curated by Iga Janik for the first installment of the performance series.
Over a period of one week, this collective of three women artists from Quebec develops a one time performance for Artspace reacting to the current socio political climate in the country, interpreting the contemporary society through egotistical and feminist action while engaging the audience in the unexpected, the dangerous, and the comical. A deliberate air of artifice, rubbish, stylization and exaggeration characterizes this work, which takes our obsession with imagery, fashion, and conformity to its absurd conclusion.
