Iga Janik, executive director of Artspace for the past five years, is leaving her post this October having accepted the position of Curator at Cambridge Galleries in Cambridge Ontario.
"Artspace has been an exceptional experience, and a unique centre to run for these past few years. I feel very good about where the centre is now. Coming to Peterborough five years ago, I set out to accomplish a number of things at Artspace and I feel that my work here is done.”
Over the past five years, Artspace has seen many changes. The main one being the move of the centre into its current facility in 2006, which resulted in much increased visibility and space access for the public. Janik's contribution to the increased artistic programming, which focuses on Canadian contemporary artists, has raised the centre's profile in the province and across the country.
Leaving the centre in a position of increased resources and community support Janik feels positive about the next chapter of Artspace."…with the strength and talent among the board members, and an opportunity for someone new to take over the executive role, I know Artspace will continue to be a vibrant, and engaging centre for contemporary art in the province."

I think increased possibilities exist there for innovative projects and a better understanding of culture's impact on communities at large."
