Forests figure prominently in many of our western fairy tales. In these stories, forests as a metaphor for the unconscious, are places in which we are seduced, deceived, waylaid, lost, hidden and trapped. This exhibition explores the possibility of the forest also providing places of shelter and protection.
Judith Hyland draws from an eclectic blend of media to build art objects that are both thought provoking and fun. She is inspired by universal human experiences, such as the sounds of a newborn baby or the smell of a cedar tree. She finds these serve to unite the human family, grounding us in times of turbulence and change.
