Luis Jacob's collaborative project "Open Your Mouth and Your Mind Will Follow" seeks to explore the complex permeability between cultural contexts -- between the realms we call Art and Life.

"Open Your Mouth and Your Mind Will Follow" takes as its metaphoric structure the parallelism between hunger and the search for social understanding; between the nutritional nourishment of our bodies, and the educational nourishment of our minds. The central artistic strategy of the project is one of producing collaborative social encounters.

The exhibition features a suite of five large-scale cooperatively-produced drawings documenting an Anarchist Sandwich Party in Toronto's subway transit system, and an image montage composing a visual narrative told in the form of sixty plastic-laminate panels. Using imagery taken from published sources, these images weave to form an encyclopedic thesis on the pedagogical roots of social experience: a sociology of education.

Several activities will accompany the exhibition in the gallery: a bread-making workshop, a potluck vermissage, artist talks, and a dance party. These outreach activities are an essential component of the exhibition project, and explore the permeability between between artistic work (creating drawings, installations and exhibitions) and non-artistic work (teaching; baking; gathering together in social ways).
