Toni Hafkenscheid's photographs of landscapes explore the limits of what constitutes fact and fiction. His photographs, although real and of actual places, appear more like model train sets: artificial, idyllic, and harmlessly toy-like. He plays with this illusion of real and fake in the landscape by utilizing simple tools of photography, such as playing with a shallow depth of field to make some parts of the images soft and others in focus, and exaggerating the colours so that the photographs look like old postcards and recall an idealized view of the immediate future typical of the 1950's, creating what might best be described as a postcard-perfect reality.
