REGULAR PROGRAMMING AND ANNUAL SUBMISSIONS
Before submitting your application please look at the past exhibitions and projects at Artspace to decide if your work fits the gallery mandate. Artspace is dedicated to exhibiting Canadian Contemporary artists working in variety of disciplines. We receive a high volume of submissions and seek works that are challenging and provocative. Installation, performance, architecture and experimental video have been the focus of our programming over the past few years. We strive to present art that reflects and promotes the diversity of cultural and political perspectives, which shape contemporary art practices. Emerging, mid-career and senior artists whose works are alternative, experimental and/or critically engaged are presented.
With multiple spaces and curatorial projects available we invite artists to apply in the following categories:
PERFORMANCE:
We are seeking proposals for original performance pieces. Duration of residency may vary depending on the nature of work and research. We invite artists to consider doing workshops and lectures during their stay at Artspace in an effort to engage local artists in research and production.
Submissions deadline: TBA (postmarked)
MAIN GALLERY:
Regular schedule of solo and group exhibitions in the main gallery. We invite artists, collectives
and curators to apply with new or existing exhibition proposals. Video installations will not be considered for the main space given the natural light in the space and full exposure windows. Video works should be submitted to programming in the MUDROOM.
Submissions deadline: 2010 closed. Deadline for 2011 will be announced in the fall. (postmarked)
MUDROOM:
A black-box gallery designated for the presentation of short-term, experimental
projects predominantly by local and regional artists, as well as presentation of video installations and

Programming Policy
Programming decisions are made by the Programming/Publications Committee which is composed of the Director, 2 working artists and curators from the Board of Directors, and 2 such professionals from the community at large. Proposals are judged in relation to artspace's mandate and programming focus.
Artspace pays recommended CAR/FAC artist fees. Group shows have various fees according to the number of participants and work included. Duration of exhibitions may vary from project to project. In addition to artist fees, Artspace pays for the transportation of work one-way, up to a maximum amount; installation and documentation costs; a reception; publicity; and insurance coverage.

Ontario Arts Council is offering Exhibition Asssistance for individual artists.
The program provides grants of $500 to $1,500 to assist individual artists with costs related to presenting their work for an exhibition. Grants are made through third-party recommenders (public art galleries, artist-run centres and arts service organizations) throughout the province. Artists must apply directly to a recommender located in the zone in which they live. Approved applications are forwarded to OAC by the recommender once the decision to award a grant has been made. Eligibility: This program is open to Ontario-based professional visual artists, craft artists and media artists who have a confirmed, upcoming public exhibition.
